We Love Beginners!
At The Yoga Loft, we remember what it was like to try yoga for the first time...kind of scary and intimidating! We want you to have a wonderful first experience with yoga and feel comfortable while doing it. If you are a beginner, we have classes dedicated specifically for you. After reviewing the class styles, email or call if you have any further questions regarding the best class for you.
Our studio has a welcoming, come as you are attitude with instructors who are warm and friendly. If you can BREATHE you can do YOGA!
To help you prepare for the start of your yoga journey, follow our beginner's guide. So many people come to yoga for different reasons. Whatever your reason is, we're excited that you're starting your yoga journey us!
1. Sign up for our one month Unlmited Yoga
If you purchased a single class visit, just email us and we will pro-rate your single class to the monthly unlimited class. Having the opportunity to attend multiple class styles and different instructors gives you a better understanding of what you will experience as you move towards a consistent yoga practice.
2. Schedule your Classes
Schedule your first few classes so you can commit this time to you. You can choose a class based on our different styles so you can find a class that’s the right fit for you.
To help guide you in the right direction, here is what we suggest for a new student:
Restorative yoga- This class is perfect if you are looking to get a deep stretch and relax. With the use of props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks and more, you will comfortably hold a pose for 3-5 minutes. This class is excellent for those who suffer from injuries, stress, and/ or anxiety.
Gentle yoga- If moving the body up and down makes you feel dizzy, this class is perfect for you. Our gentle yoga offers the ability to experience traditional yoga poses without all of the ups and downs. We slowly step into poses and hold the pose for several breaths. Modifications are always provided in all of our classes.
Slow Flow- This class mindfully moves the body in a safe and slow way to all you to fully experience the yoga pose. This class focuses on breathing in the pose and flowing with the breath.
3. Find a Yoga Buddy
Invite a friend to attend a class with you. A friend that is counting on you to come to class helps keep you accountable for your commitment.
4. Buy a Mat
Purchase your own mat, it doesn’t even have to be an expensive one. Owning your own mat gives you a sense of ownership and commitment to your yoga journey, in addition to serving as a visual reminder to come to class.
5. Attend Your First Class
To help you feel ready for your first class, read what new students should expect when going to the Yoga Loft for the first time.
What you need to bring
Bring a yoga mat (if you do not have one yet or forget, no worries! We got you covered)
Bring a towel and water
Bring a sense of humor and a CAN DO attitude!
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. If your clothes are too baggy, they can get tangled making some movements difficult, like having you blankets tangle around your legs.
It's true, we do not wear shoes. If you feel more comfortable to practice with your socks on, that is a personal preference. Please leave your shoes in the cubby space provided.
6. Ask Questions after Class
After class, take time to ask questions about class styles, certain poses, or anything else you would like to know. All our certified instructors can answer any question you might have.
7. Have Fun
Yoga is NOT meant to be stressful and should be fun! Remember with everything you do in life, with a little effort and practice, overtime, you will feel stronger and more flexible.
Yoga is a total mind, body experience. Being humble and patient with yourself is more important than standing on your head...although if you want to stand on your head, we can make that happen too!
